We’re Building the Future! Ever want to do hard work that will make a REAL difference in the world? Do you want to solve some of the most difficult problems with a team of exceptional players at a company that does not believe in impossible?

Powin Energy is a leading producer of utility scale modular battery energy storage system (complete with a patented, advanced, cloud-based monitoring/control system). That means we build power plants out of batteries that put coal and gas generators out of business and enable sustainable viability for renewable energy sources like solar and wind.

Powin is, and will continue to be, one of a handful of companies that will provide the equipment necessary to make this happen. Powin has distinct competitive advantages: cost-effectiveness; reliability; scalability; deploy-ability; and operational sophistication. Every day we work to ensure that we maintain these competitive advantages and our position as a global leader in providing turnkey, battery energy storage solutions for utility-scale, commercial and industrial, and microgrid applications.

As a key contributor to the fulfillment of Utility scale Battery Energy Storage projects, the commissioning lead role plays a critically important part in bringing the project from construction phase through commissioning and performance validation with hand of completed project to service operations. This role will lead a matrix team of commissioning engineers, field service technicians, support engineering and data analytics to the successful fulfillment of contract deliverables for the BESS projects. This role is hybrid in location with strong bias to field project locations throughout North America.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee complete commissioning and acceptance testing of the BESS including project networks for communications and control systems, EMS, relay protection and metering, thermal control systems (HVAC) fire safety and suppression systems, battery stacks, inverter, and transformers.
  • Cooperation with multiple project contributors including Project Mangers, Field Engineers, Technical Advisors, Commissioning engineers, Contractors, Suppliers, etc.
  • Develop and execute commissioning plans including resourcing and scheduling. Develop and deliver detailed reports on commissioning status and progress, determining the most optimized path to Commercial Operation.
  • Define, develop, and implement testing protocols based on Customer Contract requirements, industry best practices, market rules and local utility requirements, e.g., ERCOT, CAISO etc.
  • Lead commissioning efforts and team to achieve Commercial Operations, and handover project following successful testing to the Service Operations team. Collaborate and support Service Operations for smooth transition to operations phase.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Engineering/ or real-world experience in commissioning of utility scale energy infrastructure. Experience in a related field, such as utility construction, commissioning, performance testing, and troubleshooting.
  • 5-10 years experience.
  • Proven excellence in leading matrix teams for successful delivery of complex projects related to energy infrastructure or related field.
  • Ability to manage commissioning at field locations that require considerable overnight travel from home, including weekends and holidays.
  • Service experience desirable, (turnarounds, recommissioning, performance testing, troubleshooting, startup and shutdowns) in time compressed environments.
  • Up to 90% travel may be necessary.
