Powin is looking for an experienced and well-rounded Senior Software Engineer who will be responsible for creating and maintaining software that simulates various parts of energy storage system products and the environment they work in. The Senior Software Engineer reports to the VP of Software Engineering, but will work directly with software engineers, test engineers, and product managers to create simulators for cells, batteries, energy management systems, and other components. Powin uses a combination of real hardware, simulated hardware (using HIL), firmware, and software and we are looking for a seasoned software engineer capable of working with complex systems and refining our capabilities.

Job Details:

  • Collaborate with our software, firmware, QA, product management, and hardware teams to identify and refine simulation requirements
  • Evaluate hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) optimizations to improve the fidelity of simulated components and systems
  • Gain proficiency with energy storage system technology to create high quality simulation models and applications
  • Participate in the planning process to help set implementation estimates and work sequencing
  • Produce and maintain artifacts such as drawings, documents, and code
  • Lead and mentor others who are still gaining experience in simulation software


  • 7 – 10 years’ experience in software development (Java and Python preferred)
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience with software/hardware simulation
  • Familiarity with advanced mathematics such as calculus, statistics, and linear equations
  • Comfortable with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins)
  • Experience with energy systems and protocols (SCADA, Modbus) is a plus
  • Experience with embedded systems development a plus
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services desired
